What a Baton Rouge lawn care company covers
We do mowing, edging and string trimming, hand weeding, and hedge and shrub trimming on homes, and you can book any one of those on its own or all of them together on a schedule. For everything we do, the services page lays out each job as its own page.
Our work is on houses with their own yards. If a yard needs work that is outside what the service pages cover, we say so when you call, so you are not waiting on something that is not our line.

How a call about your yard goes
You call the number and tell us about the yard: front, back and side yards, how tall the grass is right now, what grass is in it if you know, gates, dogs, hedges, beds and anything to leave alone (a sprinkler, a flower you planted, a loose brick on the walk). Tell us what matters to you most, and we start there.
If a call is not easy, the callback form sits under the number on every page. Leave your name and number and a line about the yard.
Nothing starts without your go-ahead. If you call to set up a mow and realize at the walk-through that you also want the hedges done, we talk through that at the yard and add it to the plan.
In your yard, step by step
A visit opens with a walk of the yard. Sticks, toys, dog stakes, sprinkler heads and fire ant mounds come up on that walk, and anything the mower deck should not meet gets picked up or flagged. A fire ant mound gets pointed out and avoided, never kicked or mowed over, and a snake near the fence or the woodpile gets room instead of a handling. The crew works the deck away from any of those on the next pass.
Then the work. The deck is set for your grass before the first pass. The mower cuts the open lawn across slopes rather than up and down, with the discharge pointed at open lawn and never at a car, a window or the street. String trimming comes along the fence line, around the trees and at the posts, with the line kept off tree trunks, siding, windows and anything parked. Edging sets the line at the walk, the drive and the curb in a narrow vertical pass. Hedges and bed weeding, if you asked for them, come after the mowing so dust and clippings settle before the finish work.
A last look closes the visit. If you are home we walk the yard with you so you can say what you want next time, point out anything we missed, and bring up anything else for a future visit. If you are not home, we send any questions back by phone later. How a lawn care price is set covers the pieces that move the number.
What we bring on a visit, and what we leave behind
A visit comes with a walk-behind mower set for the grass in your yard, a stick edger, a string trimmer and a hedge trimmer when hedges are on the list. On a heavy or wet cut, bags come out for the clippings. On a normal cut at the right height, the small clippings can stay on the lawn and break down in the heat. Nothing is swept into the gutter or the street. The parish rules on yards cover the rest.
Fuel for the mower stays in a container in the vehicle, and the mower is cooled off before it goes near the can again. The blade is kept sharp because a dull rotary blade frays the grass instead of cutting it cleanly.
Lawn care in Baton Rouge yards
Baton Rouge is warm-season grass country, with a long window to grow it. The median freeze-free growing season is 276 days, so the mower comes out most weeks of the warm months. Warm-season turf is in active growth from March through October and dormant from November through February, when mowing is generally not needed, which is why a schedule holds across those months and drops off in the cold ones. The city is mostly single-family houses, with about 55 percent of the city's housing units single-family detached and about 52 percent of city homes rented, so the person calling can be an owner, a renter who keeps up their own yard, or a landlord. The work on a yard is the same either way.
A rain-heavy week pushes cuts around, and the crew judges the day on the ground. Wet grass tears instead of cutting cleanly, clumps on the deck and ruts a soft lawn with mower tires. We move or hold a visit when the lawn is better off left alone, and a yard that gets held is still on the list for the next good day.
For a visit, what grass is in the yard matters most because the deck is set differently for each one. Grass cutting has the heights by grass and the one-third rule, and a weekly schedule covers the pace across the active months.
Hedges and shrubs are shaped from the ground, with the base kept wider than the top so each hedge stays full to the lawn. For azaleas and other spring bloomers, the trim comes right after the flowers fade, so next year's buds are not cut off.
How to check us, or any lawn service you call
It is normal to want to check a company before letting a stranger onto your property. The short version of what to ask: who is coming to the yard, what the visit covers in plain words, how the price is set, what happens if the weather turns, and what happens with the clippings. The same questions work for us or for anyone else you call.
Questions about the yard, the schedule or the price we would rather answer on the phone than guess at in writing. Common questions covers mowing height, clippings and parish rules on yards. If you are ready to call, the get in touch page lists what to have ready.
Call (225) 535-8165 and tell us about the yard. If a call is not easy, leave your number in the callback form under the number and we call back.
